Kill the Messenger: Totalitarian Groups at Work

For the last week, there has been a post up at Indybay that expressed the opinion that law enforcement should not crack down on the “black community” because of the assassination of Chauncey Bailey, a journalist and Editor for the Oakland Post. The man was gunned down in cold blood by a single gunman wearing a ski mask that approached Bailey in downtown Oakland, shot twice, and left him for dead. Bailey was pronounced dead on August 2nd.

We now know that the hit on this journalist was instigated and carried out by the “Your Black Muslim Bakery”, a local Islamic hotspot in the Bay Area. This group is a radical Islamic sect that has been investigated for criminal activity in the past, and a group that Bailey had been looking into recently. The “Bakery” apparently didn’t appreciate the increased attention their criminal activities were receiving, and opted to kill the man who would report on it.

I had been watching this piece on Indybay for a few days
, simply because it was so sickening, and I wanted to see what other faithful followers of "the Left" had to say about it before I spoke out. Thankfully, even the anti-American crowd that frequents Indybay found this article, one in defense of murders that gunned down a journalist, repulsive. I feel that the Left has lost its way in recent years, but I knew that there had to be those who would not stand for the murder of a journalist by a theocratic mafia. Thankfully, there are still those who feel that the murder of a journalist is disgusting and reprehensible. An action truly opposed to freedom in every manner of the word.

If you can rationalize the death of a journalist, (at an independent journalistic site none-the-less), then you have lost any sense of reason. The simple fact that there was someone willing to support murderers who are willing to terrorize a community in this way should mark them as expendable, and we should advocate all such individuals be put on the next plane to a place that supports such totalitarian practices. Sadly, murders and theocrats get endless support by many professed leftists.

Perhaps the next time one considers supporting an “insurgency” in Iraq, they should consider the fact that translators and journalists, the very people responsible for bringing information to the masses, are targeted for assassination.

Anti-democratic totalitarians come in my shades, but they always attack the messenger first.

Bloody hell Roland, that article is pretty vile even by Indymedia standards.

It is truly a sad day when people start justifying and advocating the death of a journalist. In a left leaning city like Oakland no less.
