Anyone who thinks the forces of international Jihad are ones that can be reasoned with need look no further than an account by Michael Totten, who is in Al Anbar.
“It was a VBIED,” he said. A vehicle-borne improvised explosive device, or – in regular English – a car bomb. “It was just a few weeks ago. There were four passengers. One was killed.”
“Only one?” I said. “Why pack four people into a car bomb?” I said.
“They didn’t know it was a car bomb,” he said. “It blew up at the checkpoint near the arches. We’re trying to figure out who planted it. We have had more than one insurgent deliberately ride along in a suicide VBIED, though.”
“Isn't that a waste of a suicide bomber?” I said.
“They aren't very pragmatic,” he said. “The way they see it, they all get their 72 virgins either way. It's more about the 72 virgins than actually winning the war.”
Now if only all suicide bombers could get into one car together, we could be done with the lot of them.

Yeah, I can see it: "Hey guys, wanna meet the girls tonight? I have seven seats available in my minivan and lotsa dynamite!"
My favourite dumb suicide bomber story was the one I read about last month regarding the not-so-bright guy in Afghanistan whose device detonated a tad prematurely after he tripped and fell down a flight of stairs in Lashkar Gah. If I was Allah I don't think I'd let men this incompetent anywhere near one virgin let alone 72.
