I have touched on a few instances that slowly pushed me to the “right” (I personally still place myself on the left ideologically, but that is for another day). One of the more important events was the Iraqi election. To see that this truly was a democratic government, and not some puppet regime as many on the left had been claiming was probably the final nail in my leftist coffin. I just could not understand how a bunch of folks who claimed to support democracy were so willing to abandon a new one in the middle of the Arab world, simply because America had a hand in creating it.
